A photograph of a man carrying his mother to seek treatment at a hospital has touched the hearts of many people.
It was taken by an undergraduate, who saw the mother-and-son pair at Chi Mei Medical Centre in Taiwan.
The picture has gone viral after it was posted online.
Over the past three days, the hottest topic discussed online was "Who is he?" with thousands of netizens joining in the search for the identity of the son.
It was finally revealed that he is 62-year-old Ding Zhu Ji, a former officer with The Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Justice based in Tainan.
His former colleagues told Taiwan's Apple Daily that Ding's 85-year-old mother fractured her leg last month, and he had been sending her for follow-up treatment. The picture was taken during one of the trips.
"We're not surprised. He is known as a filial son," said one of them.
"His mother wished to visit her relatives in China in 2007 but Ding could not go to the country then. So he applied for early retirement long before reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65.
"He was in charge of internal security then. Due to the sensitivity of the job, he could not go to China for three years after leaving the bureau and immediately after that, he fulfilled his mother's wish."A classmate at the bureau's training class said Ding had rejected a promotion, which required him to relocate to another district, just to take care of his mother.
Unlike in the case of Ding's mother, a 53-year-old blind and terminally ill woman was abandoned by her daughter in China.
It was reported that Xiao Na had hired a driver to dump the mother in Anshan of Liaoning province, some 600km away, on Feb 27.
Yu Shirong - who was so sick that she could not move - was left on the road covered with snow before she was rescued by passers-by who heard her shouts for help.
It was reported that Xiao Na had done so because her boyfriend did not like Yu. After abandoning her mother, she switched off her cellphone.
Reporters finally traced Xiao Na at her home. The woman, whose age was not disclosed, apologised to Yu over the phone a few days later.
Yu is currently receiving treatment at the hospital in Anshan with help from volunteer workers
